    Question

Its there anybody in the Allentown, PA area working in Super 8 at this time ? I sold my 16 rolls of super 8 sound film & had to buy the silent stuff. Also has anyboby had good luck with the transfer to DVD, and how good does it look ? I would like to hear from anybody on this topic.

I'm not in the Allentown area, but I live down by Telford, which is a few miles south of Quakertown. I'm about an hour south of Allentown, via Route 309. I'm working in Super 8, but I haven't done much lately.

I've transferred S8 film to DVD via my Video Cinemate 20 and for the most part it looks good. I transferred using the Sony DV codecs and burned to DVD at full 720 * 480 resolution. Only drawback--so far, the DVD only plays on my PC.

I actually do have some shots of Allentown on standard 8mm--footage shot at a USSBA band competition at J. Birney Crum Stadium on Linden Street.

It's too bad you got rid of the sound film--that stuff goes for top dollar these days.

It's great to hear there's an S8 filmmaker so close by.

    Hi Andrew,

You might want to contact Jim Peters at Filmlab in Allentown, PA.

    The Address is:

    Film Labs

    445-447 North 7th Street

    Allentown, PA 18102

    Telephone: (610) 435-8133

They sale all kinds of super 8 and 16mm equipment on ebay including film. Good chance that Jim can help you. I have purchased film and other supplies there and always get a square deal.

When was the last time you dealt with Film Lab?

I went down to Film Lab's address (the same one you listed in your post) in January 2002 and Film Lab was gone.

I called them direct and they sent me a paper listing all their services. Yes, they are still in business.

Apparently they still are. Andrew (the guy who started this thread) emailed me last night. Film Lab is still there but 75% of the store has been sublet to sell beauty supplies or something.

I remember when I was down there last January peering into the windows and when I did not see anything resembling a photgraphy store, I surmised they had gone out of business. My mistake.

Thanks for calling them direct, Michael.
